» Vasko Vassilev has been in Sofia discussing ideas for developing the management of classical music institutions, including the National Opera, in Bulgaria. As Bulgaria looks forward to joining the European Union, many musicians are anticipating greater opportunities but there will also be greater competition. "I feel that this is the time when we must be ambitious - and courageous". Vasko has already met with the President and the Prime Munister, and yesterday met with the Minister of Culture - prof. Stefan Danailov. Vasko is known to also have the support of the other music-loving figures in finance and politics, and is already a household name in the world of music. The minister and Vasko discussed the possibility of the latter returing to Sofia in a more formal capacity. "All the meetings at the highest level were very constuctive, and we are looking forward to working together to creat a positive and dynamic way forward. I have been asked to consider a nomination for seletion as Director of the national Opera. If there is a real chance to make a difference and build a new future for the Opera, I will definitely throw my hat in."
